Sudanese Army Detains Several Activists, Community Leaders in Abu Jubeiha, South Kordofan

On November 10th and 11th, 2024, Sudanese army personnel from the 10th Infantry Division in Abu Jubeiha city, South Kordofan State, detained several activists and community leaders, amid rising human rights violations and freedom suppression in the city, according to follow-up reports from the Sudanese Alliance for Rights (SAR).

The alliance has obtained a list of the detained individuals, which includes Mahmoud Ahmed Al-Mansour, a civil society activist; Omdah (Chieftain) Mahmoud Idris of the Eastern Rural area; Rahma Al-Tahir Rahma, a member of the Coordination of the Resistance Committees in Al-Abbasiya Tagali Locality; Tawhid Al-Tahir Iyssa, representative of the Omdah of Al-Jebel area; Mohamed Abdalla (Abbaro), former head of the South Kordofan Farmers Union; Musa Al-Tahir Iyssa, an activist and member of the Resistance Committees in Al-Abbasiya Tagali; Mahmoud Suwar, a primary school teacher; and Dr. Adam Khalifa, a lecturer at the University of the Holy Quran.

The alliance also reported that the military in Abu Jubeiha has issued arrest warrants for Hamdan Mansour Hamdan, a human rights activist; Hamza Al-Tahir Rahma, an activist and member of the local Farmers’ Union; and Jamal Addar, a former police officer, with military intelligence actively pursuing their arrest.

Sources have confirmed to the SAR that the detainees remain in military custody at the 10th Infantry Division in Abu Jubeiha, with their arrests being arbitrary and the reasons for their detention still unknown

The sources also revealed that the detainees have been denied contact with their families, with no clear information about their condition since their arrest.
