Statement on the Humanitarian Truce in Sudan

The Sudanese Alliance for Rights (SAR) welcomes the announcement by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of their decision to enter into the proposed humanitarian truce, a joint effort of national, regional, and international mediators, including the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, in Sudan. This initiative represents a positive and vital step toward easing the immense suffering faced by civilians and ensuring the safe delivery of urgently needed humanitarian assistance for the Sudanese people.

We urge the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) to demonstrate a similar sense of responsibility and compassion by agreeing to an immediate and reciprocal humanitarian truce. The people of Sudan continue to bear the heaviest burden of this devastating conflict, and their protection must take precedence over all other considerations.

We further urge regional and international mediators to spare no effort in intensifying their diplomatic efforts and exert all possible pressure on the SAF to join this proposed humanitarian truce. A sustained cessation of hostilities is crucial to create space for humanitarian access and pave the way for a comprehensive and lasting peace process.

The suffering in Sudan must not continue. It is time for both parties to show responsibility, compassion, and genuine concern for their people.

This moment presents a critical opportunity to alleviate civilian suffering and foster confidence in a broader cessation of hostilities. We encourage all stakeholders to seize it in the spirit of humanity, accountability, and peace.
