Khazan Jadid, February 20- SAR
On Thursday, February 20, Sudanese army warplanes launched a deadly airstrike on Khazan Jadid area, located in the Shearia locality of East Darfur State, killing 12 civilians and injuring several others.
According to reports from the Sudanese Alliance for Rights (SAR), the heavy aerial bombardment caused widespread devastation, including the destruction of homes and displacement of many families.
Local residents from nearby areas, who spoke to the SAR, reported the extreme difficulty of the situation, citing a lack of medical supplies to treat the wounded and the ongoing displacement from the area.
The SAR also notes that Khazan Jadid is home to many displaced persons who fled the ongoing conflict in North Darfur State, all of whom are in urgent need of basic services.
The area is currently experiencing a communication and internet blackout, including a loss of Starlink service, which has made it even more challenging to document the tragedy and send distress calls.
Human rights defenders have renewed their urgent call to the international community and humanitarian organizations to take immediate action to protect civilians, provide emergency aid to those affected, and ensure that areas housing displaced populations are not targeted.
