Nearly 100 billion SDG worth of medical supplies looted from El Razi Hospital in Khartoum

Khartoum – SAR, February 24, 2025

In a troubling development, follow-up reports from the Sudanese Alliance for Rights (SAR) have revealed that all the medical supplies at El Razi Hospital in Khartoum were looted.

The looted medicines were valued at approximately 100 billion Sudanese pounds (SDG), a source, who spoke to the SAR on condition of anonymity, said, noting that the incident occurred on January 20, 2025.

The looting was carried out by forces wearing uniforms of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), who raided the hospital’s warehouse, the source said.

The stolen medical supplies included vital, life-saving medications, the majority of which were donated by UNICEF and delivered three months ago, when the hospital was still operational, the source said, citing Al-Azahari Emergency Room in South Khartoum.

However, following the withdrawal of Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF), El Razi Hospital has faced a severe gap in healthcare services, leaving it vulnerable to such criminal acts.

The SAR follow-ups also revealed that many hospitals in southern Khartoum, including Bashair, Al-Raqi, El Razi, and Al-Hikma, are now out of service, with only two hospitals in the area- Al Fouad and the Turkish Hospital- remain operational.

The alliance further notes that El Razi Hospital is presently non-operational and lacks security personnel to protect the premises, which led to the widespread looting of its medical supplies.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges facing healthcare services in Sudan amid the prolonged conflict.
