Omdurman – February 23- SAR
Follow-up reports from the Sudanese Alliance for Rights (SAR) have revealed that the Sudanese army has been using schools in the districts of Al-Thawra neighborhood of Omdurman city, north of the capital Khartoum, as military barracks.
Eyewitnesses who spoke to the SAR reported that the schools included those of districts (10), (19), (21) and (30), and Al-Muhajir Private School, besides several others in the Al-Rawda neighborhood of Omdurman.
The eyewitnesses also reported that the army has positioned several artillery cannons within residential areas, including in Al-Waha neighborhood square, Block No. (7), the square of district (6) in Al-Thawra, and at Omdurman Islamic University.
The army’s use of artillery from these sites has prompted the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to target those areas in an effort to destroy the cannons, which has led to shells landing in residential areas, causing civilian casualties, according to the eyewitnesses. They also confirmed the presence of military intelligence offices within the neighborhoods.
A source from the Al-Thawra area, speaking on condition of anonymity, explained that the placement of these guns in residential areas has made them frequent targets of ongoing shelling by the RSF, resulting in both property damage and civilian casualties. The source also disclosed that the army has been utilizing mobile artillery mounted on vehicles, operating from within these residential neighborhoods.
The source revealed that several months ago, an artillery gun was positioned near Khor Shambat, along the street separating the Nile City from eastern Al-Waha neighborhood, emphasizing that most of the shells fired by the RSF in those areas landed close to the artillery positions, which were typically relocated at dawn.
