Sudanese Human Rights at a Cross Road!
We, Sudanese Alliance for Rights from Sudan gathered at the Fairway Hotel in a workshop on the situation of human rights in the Sudan and the development of a plan and strategy for the formation of a coalition of actors’ organizations from July 10-11, 2024, in Kampala Uganda; reflecting on Conflict in Sudan, call for accountability, end of impunity and effective protection from violations and killings.
Recalling the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the UN Declaration on HRDs of 1998, the Grand Bay (Mauritius) Declaration and Plan of Action, 1999 adopted by the OAU Ministerial Conference on Human Rights, the Kigali Declaration, 2003 adopted by the African Union (AU) Ministerial Conference on Human Rights in Africa, the Resolutions of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the African Charter on Democracy Elections and Good Governance (ACDEG);
Reaffirming that ending conflict and impunity, peaceful resolution of conflict, ending displacement, and a need for a humanitarian corridor are paramount and urgent, calling in a non-violent manner for social justice, rule of law, democratic reform and accountable governance;
Noting the current efforts by different citizens, parties and mechanisms instituted since the outbreak of the war to resolve the conflict;
Mindful of the significant disastrous effects of the war on infrastructure, human life, essential social and economic services, and the realities on the ground, in which the lives and wellbeing of Sudanese people and HRDs are endangered;
Considering the continued deaf ear by the worrying parties, an eroded and ignored crisis, prevalence of armed groups expanding their control of the state, placing the constitution, peace and security of the Sudanese population in jeopardy;
Deeply Concerned with the indiscriminately targeted attacks on HRDs, civilians and personal effects, including abductions, enforced disappearances, sexual violence and extra- judicial killings with total impunity signifies a complete defeat of the democratic gains made, and in the protection of, and enjoyment of rights by citizens, HRDs and civil society;
