The Sudanese Alliance of Rights unreservedly condemns the heinous massacre committed in Allouba Village, located south of El Obeid in North Kordofan State, on Sunday, 13 April 2025.
According to credible reports, seven members of the Turkawi family, belonging to the Al-Hawazma tribe, were brutally beheaded by forces affiliated with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), its allied Joint Forces, and the al-Baraa Bin Malik Brigades. The killings were carried out publicly, in front of local residents, in a village far removed from any active combat zones—strongly suggesting that the attack was deliberate, targeted, and ethnically motivated.
The victims of this massacre were:
- Al-Fateh Issa Turkawi
- Al-Zaki Issa Turkawi
- Al-Ruqayya Issa Turkawi
- Abdullah Adam Issa Turkawi
- Ahmed Adam Issa Turkawi
- Musa Mohammed Adam Shein
- Al-Touma Mohammed Turkawi
These were not mere names on a list. They were sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters—human beings with dreams, dignity, and the right to life. Their brutal execution is not just a violation of law—it is a wound to our shared humanity. The pain inflicted on their families, and the trauma now seared into the hearts of their community, is immeasurable.
Such acts constitute grave breaches of international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit the targeting of civilians and require the humane treatment of all persons not participating in hostilities. Additionally, this massacre violates the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, specifically the right to life, dignity, and protection from cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment. The ethnically motivated nature of the killings also amounts to ethnic cleansing, a crime under international law that must be urgently addressed.
We stand in full solidarity with the victims’ families and the Al-Hawazma community and demand accountability and justice.
The Sudanese Alliance of Rights calls for:
- An immediate, impartial, and international investigation into the Allouba Village massacre.
- Full accountability for all individuals and commanders responsible for this atrocity, including those who ordered, enabled, or attempted to conceal it.
- Urgent protection measures for at-risk communities and increased monitoring by regional and international actors.
- Robust international pressure on all parties to the conflict to respect international law and protect civilians.
We continue to call on regional and international stakeholders—particularly the African Union and United Nations to take urgent, concrete steps to prevent further atrocities, ensure the safety of civilians, and support justice processes that hold perpetrators to account.
Targeting civilians based on their ethnic identity is not only abhorrent but also a direct assault on the values of human dignity, justice, and coexistence. These crimes must not go unpunished.
We urge the international community to act swiftly and decisively. Silence in the face of such horror is complicity.
Justice and dignity for all Sudanese. Now and always.
