The Sudanese Alliance for Rights strongly condemns the horrific human rights violations committed by the Sudanese Army and allied Islamic groups in Umm Rawaba, North Kordofan State, from 30 January to the present. Reports indicate that these forces have engaged in ethnically motivated atrocities, including:
- Mass executions and murder
- Beheadings
- Arbitrary arrests and detentions
- House raids
These actions represent grave violations of international humanitarian and human rights law, including:
- The Geneva Conventions and Additional Protocols, which prohibit extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detention, and attacks on civilians.
- The Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), under which these acts qualify as war crimes and crimes against humanity (Articles 7 and 8).
- The African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), which guarantees the right to life, dignity, and freedom from persecution (Articles 4 and 5).
- The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), which upholds the right to security and protection from inhumane treatment (Articles 3 and 5).
SAR calls for an immediate investigation into these crimes, the prosecution of those responsible, and urgent intervention to prevent further atrocities. The world must not remain silent as civilians are targeted and brutalized based on their ethnicity. Perpetrators must be held accountable, and every effort must be made to restore safety and justice for the people of North Kordofan.
The Sudanese Alliance for Rights (SAR) is conducting further investigations into these violations and will publish a comprehensive report detailing the events in Umm Rawaba. This report will provide critical evidence to support accountability efforts and ensure justice for the victims. SAR remains committed to uncovering the full extent of these atrocities and advocating for urgent international intervention.
