We at the Sudanese Alliance for Rights are deeply horrified and outraged by the brutal beheading of Al-Tyeeb Ahmed Mohammed, the Director of Education in Umm Rawaba, a respected member of the Uma Party and Al-Hilal Football Club. On 31 January 2025, he was executed by the Sudanese Army and allied Islamic groups, who then refused to allow his body to be taken for more than three hours.
This heinous act is an undeniable violation of human dignity and a blatant crime under international humanitarian law. The targeting of civilians based on political affiliation and ethnicity breaches the Geneva Conventions, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, all of which prohibit extrajudicial killings and acts of terror against civilians.
We unequivocally condemn this atrocity and demand an immediate, independent investigation to ensure accountability for those responsible. The deliberate killing of civilians must not be tolerated, and perpetrators must face justice.
We call on the international community, human rights bodies, and all concerned actors to take urgent action to stop these crimes and protect civilians in Sudan. Silence and inaction will only embolden further atrocities. Justice for Al-Tyeeb Ahmed Mohammed and all victims of these crimes is not just necessary—it is imperative.
This is a grievous loss, and our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
